Exoskeleton X, Inc. is a project of the Bioelectromechanical Laboratory of the Group for Research and Development at Venezuela’s Simon Bolívar University (Grupo de Investigación y Desarrollo en Mecatrónica de la Universidad Simón Bolívar). This multidisciplinary team of highly qualified scientific researchers was created to generate innovative and sustainable projects incorporating biological, electronic, and mechanical disciplines. They conceptualized a “Lower Lumbar Exoskeleton”, intended to help people severely disabled by lower back injury or congenital defect to walk. This exoskeleton works in an articulate manner in combination with an intelligent prosthesis and modern orthotics technology currently in development. An important value added by this project is a significant reduction in production costs because the product would be manufactured locally in country with export quality, but at a lower cost compared with other commercial options available in the current world market.
